Biography
Born and raised in Japan, aimi is a multi-talented singer and a rising R&B artist. Her activities are currently based in Tokyo, and she released her first bilingual EP, Water Me (2020), for both Japanese and global R&B listeners.
Growing up listening to soul music and R&B, aimi picked up her fatherʼs guitar and began writing her own music at the age of 16. Her musical style is rooted in the soulful sounds of 90s and 00s R&B, with a blend of contemporary and alternative R&B influences.
Since her latest EP “Chosen One” was released in early 2022, aimi has been gaining more recognition within Japan and her global streams have jumped significantly in Taiwan, U.S., Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia and more. Each song she releases is a love letter to the growing contemporary R&B scene worldwide. aimi continues to push boundaries with her music and proudly presents her made-in-Japan R&B for all the R&B lovers around the globe.
Last year, aimi started her R&B event 'STAY READY' in Tokyo to bring life to the local R&B scene. Early this year, she was featured as the first artist in 'BACARDI Sound Distillery,' a new project by BACARDI and released a track called 'No One Is' in collaboration with producer/DJ tofubeats. Also, she released collaborative projects with R&B artists EMI MARIA and JASMINE. Recently, she organized 'aimi presents 'STAY READY vol.2' supported by BACARDI,' boosting the Japanese R&B scene once again.

After three years of sharing my music and performing live at my event, with a warm and welcoming audience, I've come to realize that I'm no longer alone on this journey. R&Bシンガーaimiが自身の主催イベントで初披露した新曲「(wanna vibe) with you」が10月27日に配信リリースされる。9月15日(金)に東京・代官山SPACE ODDにて開催された「aimi presents 'STAY READY vol.2' supported by BACARDI」は、会場に集結したR&Bラバーたちと幸福感に包まれた空間で最高潮の盛り上がりを見せた。イベントの余韻を感じながらレコーディングされた今作は、いつになくハッピーヴァイブを纏ったバウンシーなミッドチューン。プロデュースはModesty Beats。またリリース当日20時に自作のリリックビデオがYouTubeにてプレミア公開される。

2020年に突如シーンに一石を投じたR&B界の新星“aimi”とVictor Recordsからメジャーデビュー、パプアニューギニアと日本のミックスのR&Bアーティスト“EMI MARIA”によるコラボシングルの第二弾が5月24日(水)に配信リリースされる。

Artists have been bringing soulfulness and vulnerability of 2000ʼs and 90ʼs R&B to mainstream. aimi and EMI MARIA have been listening to the same genre of music growing up, and they united together to bring R&B that's on a par with world-renowned artists to the J-POP culture.
The duo will share their first collaborative single "Day N Night," on October 26. “Day N Night” expresses a deep affection to the loved ones who show mental and spiritual support when one is struggling to see the light. Musically, its deep bassline works together well with the consistently rhythmic yet simple synth pad and voice samples to create that signature classic R&B sound.
While many Japanese artists make cross-genre music in the space of J-POP, aimi has been determined to make an authentic R&B over the past 2 years. This collaboration is her finest work yet and it has a great potential to become a new chapter for J-R&B. More collaboration will be revealed next year.

先月9ヶ月ぶりの新曲「Lovesick」をリリースしてから早1ヶ月、新鋭R&Bシンガーソングライター aimi がハートブレイキングな別れを綴った冬の新曲「The Fool, The Lovers」を12月10日に配信リリース。楽曲は数々の国内R&Bを手掛けてきた音楽プロデューサーShingo.Sがプロデュースし、ミュージックビデオは¥ellow Bucks、DJ RYOW、Hideyoshiなどの映像を手がけているKen Harakiが監督を務めた。同日MVがYouTubeにてプレミア公開された。
90年代R&Bサウンドで愛する喜びを歌い上げた前作「Lovesick」に続いて、今作は最新のChill R&Bサウンドに乗せて、より繊細な歌唱表現と赤裸々なリリック、フローが楽しめる2021年を締めくくるに相応しい一曲になっている。aimi自身の身近な人の間で起きたストーリーを聞いている中で、楽曲に綴らなければ自分自身を保つことができないという衝動にかられ生まれた楽曲である。
「The Fool, The Lovers」は後先を考えずに恋に落ちていく愚かな恋人たちを指したタイトルで、恋愛にまつわる人間ドラマを多く描いてきた “R&B”らしい作品である。

新鋭R&Bシンガーソングライター aimi が新曲「Lovesick」を2021年11月3日に配信リリース。またミュージックビデオが同日公開された。MV監督はYo-Seaや3houseが所属する沖縄発クルーSouthCatの一員である映像ディレクターKiyoraが監督を務めた。
2月に発表した2nd EP「Changed 4 Good」がストアでバナー展開され台湾などでも広がりをみせたほか、R&B DJとして時代を担ってきたDJ KOMORI、JAZZY SPORTの最重要選手grooveman Spotのオリジナル作品にフィーチャリング参加、またR&B専門番組のラジオパーソナリティも務め、キュレーターの役割も担っているaimi。新曲「Lovesick」は90年代R&Bをベースとしたオーセンティックな現行R&Bサウンドに乗せて、愛する喜びをストレートに歌った1曲で、ラジオやパーティーでリスナーと共有してきた音楽的体験が作品に落とし込まれている。今作を皮切りに、新作のリリースが続く予定。
A rising R&B singer-songwriter, aimi finally reveals her next project “Changed 4 Good.” The new EP includes 2 previously released tracks “Fight No More” and “The Wave feat. Furui Riho” which made a buzz on social media. Japanese Top R&B producers, beat makers and R&B freaks went wild with joy and many commented as a revival of R&B. Nine months since releasing her 1st EP "Water Me," aimi continues to evolve and update her sound, vocals and songwriting skills. She sets her goal to achieve success and gain recognition both at home and away as a R&B artist.
All of the songs except one ("The Wave") are written in English for listeners all around the world. The lead track "KMHH" (an acronym standing for "keep my head high") brings positing and uplifting vibe to the EP. This upbeat song humorously depicts aimi's desire of wanting to go to Los Angeles for exploring the music scenes after the pandemic. “I keep my head high from Tokyo to LA / Say hi to the west side / Flying high on the jet plane / I keep my head high from Tokyo to LA / How's it going on that side? / Soon I'll be coming from the island ” aimi sings on the chorus. 2020年に突如シーンに現れた新鋭R&Bシンガーソングライターaimiが2nd EP『Changed 4 Good』2021年2月24日(水)に配信リリース。デビューEP『Water Me』から9ヶ月、サウンド・歌唱・ソングライティングともに進化した渾身作。
R&BプロデューサーShingo.Sが織りなす最先端のサウンドは現行のUS R&Bシーンに引けをとらない仕上がりとなっている。先行シングルの「Fight No More」「The Wave feat. Furui Riho」を含む5曲を収録。ほとんどの楽曲が英詞で書かれており、引き続き世界のシーンに向けて発信していく。
“Changed for Good”は「良い方に/永遠に変わった」という二つの意味があり、2020年5月にaimiとして再スタートを切り、経験してきた環境や心情の変化を受け入れ、全て良い方向に繋げていくという想いが込められている。
リードトラック『KMHH』は“Keep My Head High(上を向いていく)”の略で、コロナが明けたらロサンゼルスに音楽修行に行きたいというaimiのリアルな心情をユーモラスに歌い上げたアップチューンに仕上がっている。

プロデュースにShingo.S を迎えた今作は、二人の異なる歌声が混ざり合う心地よい横揺れR&Bチューンに仕上がっている。ミュージックビデオは札幌を拠点に活動するビートメイカー・ラッパーでもある、映像監督のJazadocumentが手がけている。
After revealing her deeply-vulnerable emotions and letting go of the past with the latest single “Fight No More,” aimi returns with her new single titled “The Wave.” The new Japanese R&B singer-songwriter enlisted her J-R&B colleague Furui Riho from Hokkaido to add her vibes to the song. Produced by Shingo.S, "The Wave" is about keeping faith in your dreams and passions which requires great patience. We have to always keep our head up for opportunities, no matter what others may say, because great wave can come in unexpected moments.
The new track by aimi was released on Dec. 9. "Fight No More" is not another breakup story, but a journey of reaching self-compassion through acknowledgment of our pain.
“Maybe I just didnʼt know you at all / Maybe I made up my mind so I can go / Iʼve changed for the better / Youʼre gone for the better” she sings to the past.
The story is told as a deeply-vulnerable love song, but it was also inspired by her actual inner conversations with herself letting go of the old train of thoughts and broken relationships to move forward. As the world today is going through many struggles and changes, “Fight No More” sends a positive message for those who are trying to embrace the transformation and be a better version of themselves.
Chilled, alternative R&B track was produced by one of the top R&B producers in Japan, Shingo.S. The track will be released in unison with its music video, starring aimi herself. The video was shot in Okinawa, Japan with breathtaking scenery and sentimental yet strong acting scenes. The director is 25 years old, Ken Haraki, who has been directing Japanese Hip-Hop artists like KOWICHI, Normcore Boyz, Hideyoshi and more.

約10年間音楽活動を経て、今年 R&B シンガーソングライターとして生まれ変わった aimi が、過去の自分との葛藤を手放し「今」を生きることを選んだ決意表明を楽曲に。
今年のグラミー賞にもノミネートされている H.E.R や Jhené Aikoなどに影響を受け、R&Bシンガーとして今年デビューした aimi は5月末にデビューEP「Water Me」を発表。iTunes R&B/ソウルチャートでは初登場1位を獲得し、突如現れた “謎のR&Bシンガー” は早耳リスナーの間で話題となった。12月9日(水) にニューシングル「Fight No More」の配信リリース & MV公開。
「Fight No More」は長年音楽活動を続けてきた aimi が名義を変えて再スタートを切る中で、抱えていた葛藤とその手放しが綴られた楽曲である。前作に比べより情緒的なオルタナティブ R&B サウンドに仕上がっている。
英詞での表現力も高い aimi は日本だけでなく世界のリスナーに向けて発信していく意気込みだ。加藤ミリヤ, 青山テルマ, 清水翔太などをプロデュースし、日本のR&Bシーンを最前線で支え、近年ではSIRUPのLOOPを手がけたことで知られるShingo.S がトータルプロデュースしている。
MVは KOWICHI や Normcore Boyz、Hideyoshiらの映像作品を手掛けている映像監督 Ken Haraki が担当し、aimi の母の故郷でもある沖縄を舞台に撮影された。
